Listenbourg — Country Where BTC Will be the Only Money
New country. New rules.
Three days ago, a ‘new’ country joined the European continent. On the western side of the Iberian Peninsula, Spain and Portugal were joined by Poland-sized Listenbourg.
But only online, sorry.
Listenbourg is an adaptation of the map, created by one of the Twitter users, to mock geographically not so well-educated Americans. Again, sorry — I love Americans.
In less than three days, the fictional country got, among other things, an interior ministry, an anthem, a passport, a Formula 1 team and a ‘real’ Sun King.
But why stop there! I also heard they will only accept BTC payments.
“I’m sure Americans don’t know the name of this country,” user Gaspardo wrote three days ago alongside a fake photo of Listenbourg. Those who recognized that it was a joke participated in it. “Who doesn’t know Listenbourg?” another user chimed in and unwittingly created an online ‘meme’. His designation of a fake country went viral.

On the first day, Listenbourg got its place on the world map, a Formula 1 team and a crew of astronauts who will go to the moon. On the second day of its online existence, the country got an interior ministry and a passport, and heated users also discussed its political direction and principles on social networks.
At the same time, the Listenbourg Ministry of the Interior’ also got its own personal Twitter account, which urges other users to contact them if they want to get their passports.
But the members of the ‘newly established country’ even claim that in its rich history it was led by the ‘real’ Sun King XV., who fought with the French Louis XIV in 1661 to receive the prestigious title.
After three days of existence, Listenbourg also has its anthem and flag. The latter is red and white, and in the center is decorated with a coat of arms with a golden eagle, two branches and the letter N.
A special page about Listenbourg also appeared on the French Wikipedia, which described in more detail the ‘rich history’ and the founding of the country. It can no longer be accessed.
What about other known fake countries?
In addition to Listenbourg, other fake countries are also appearing online. One of them, Molvania, was also created to raise awareness about the poor knowledge of the world. It is said to be a former Soviet country, where whooping cough originates. It was created by a group of Australian comedians, and at the same time they also published a tourist guide around the country.
